When two people disagree, or when their thoughts and behaviors are different, they come into conflict. Conflict can be positive and it can be negative. It's good when conflict motivates people to think, grow, or do things another way. In healthy relationships, there is no fear when conflicts occur. For those raised in abusive homes where one person wants to “win,” rather than resolve their differences through dialogue and compromise, conflict can escalate from disagreement to abuse or violence. If so, counseling may help (“Domestic Conflict”). Oscar Pistorius is a very famous blade runner in South Africa who killed his girlfriend early in the morning on Valentine's Day. The famous blade runner has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, claiming that he mistook her for an intruder and that it was not a premeditated murder (Curnow). The story of Oscar Pistorius is similar to the story “A Jury of Her Peers” because Minnie Wright is also accused of killing her husband while he slept. Minnie Wright just like Oscar denied murdering her husband. Although they used a completely different approach, both Minnie Wright, in Susan Glaspell's “A Jury of Her Peers,” and Oscar Pistorius, the South African sprint runner, were both involved in a domestic conflict and committed a crime by killing their partner. Both Minnie Wright and Oscar Pistorius never received help for their problems. Minnie Wright was physically and verbally abused by her husband John Wright. The whole town where Minnie lived knew that she was very unhappy and had problems with her husband, but no one gave her the proper help she needed; she was all alone. Just like Minnie Wright, Oscar Pistorius never received help for his i......middle of paper......lade Runner” due to the fact that he has no legs and having that disability doesn't stop the blade runner who races against guys who have legs and wins those races; It's really inspiring for people. Oscar Pistorius is currently still on trial and has not yet been convicted, but will likely be a free man in a couple of months. As a final point, Oscar Pistorius, the knife hunter who shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, and Minnie Wright, the character from “A Jury of Her Peers” who strangled her husband John Wright to death are both similar in many ways ways. Oscar and Minnie have both been involved in a domestic conflict relationship with their partners and as a result they are both on trial and awaiting sentencing. Both stories have a different approach but they have both committed a crime that will follow them for the rest of their lives.
