Less Laws, More Guns It's scary to think of family members or close friends dying innocently as victims of a shooting. The recent shooting at a 7-Eleven store across the street from Cerritos College has many people talking about gun violence. In America, one of the biggest problems is gun violence. Over the years, gun violence in America has increased. In most cases, shootings occur in schools, shops and public places where many innocent people are injured or killed. When a shooting occurs, the reporter, social media or the front page of a newspaper talks about the gun problems. There are two sides to this gun debate, one is making more laws and the other is more guns. Individuals must consider which side of the debate offers the greatest gain at the lowest cost. Looking back at the laws, making more of them won't work because individuals will break the rules. Many won't stop until they own a gun, legally or illegally. Even though some individuals are not in favor of the right to own a gun, owning a gun will determine the life or death of an individual by ensuring that the individual is safe. Having the right to own guns could help save more people's lives because a gun will be a great source of protection. In terms of the gun debate in America, individuals should prioritize personal freedom because by having more guns people may feel safer and more protected. In the United States, in order for people to legally carry guns, people must undergo background checks, but the background checks fail because some individuals illegally carry guns into the state. In Nicholas Kristof's article “Some Inconvenient Gun Facts for Liberals” there are some hints that, with…half of the paper…the gun debate in America behind them, a lot of people talk about how dangerous guns could be. Trying to prevent people from buying guns or disposing of guns wouldn't help because guns could be brought in illegally. Background checks would only work if the government made the law stricter but since it is not yet strict, things will remain the same. Instead of making more laws, the government should allow people to carry guns because the gun could be used for protection. There could have been a possibility that in the San Bernardino shooting, the 14 people who died in the attack, could have survived if those people had had a gun. Who knows where and when a shooting might happen? No one knows except the one who will commit the crime. This is why having more guns could reduce people from getting injured or dying in a shooting. This means that more guns will equal more security.
