Most expect that by attending college and graduating they will be able to find a well-paying career with benefits in a field that will be of interest to them. It seems like it's been drilled into our heads since high school that we need to attend college to be successful in life and contribute to our society. However, graduates often find themselves working in a field unrelated to their degree. This could be due to the number of people trying to apply for a job in that specific field, or it could be that that job does not provide them with enough money to live on. The most important thing students need to ask themselves before attending college is, “is a college degree really enough in today's world to get a good career and a well-paying job?” working at McDonald's and living with his parents. However, this seems to happen more often in America. Employers are looking for reasons not to hire people fresh out of college. Many studies have shown that employers believe that graduates have difficulties with critical thinking, creativity, problem solving and that they cannot write well (White, MC Nov 2013). Most of these skills would obviously have to be learned in high school and college, so it would seem that the education that an individual or their parents have spent so much money on is truly useless. America as a whole is not teaching emerging generations the skills needed to get a good job.
