You may be wondering what are GMOs? GMOs or genetically modified organisms are plants and animals that have been genetically modified with DNA from bacteria, viruses, or other plants and animals. GMOs are present in plants no longer stocked for a day, yes, that's something many people don't realize or know about. The reason I chose this issue is because I feel that people need to be informed about what is going on in their bodies. “Increasingly, Americans are taking matters into their own hands and choosing to give up on GMO experiments” (NON GMO ORJECT, 2014). This issue is important not only to Americans but also to other foreign countries. At the moment no one is being harmed, but we never know that as the years go by something will come out, it's better for people to know sooner or later. The aspects of GMOs that will be covered in the research will include the history, benefits, most common GMO foods and the elimination of GMOs. The biggest question I seek an answer to is: Do GMOs harm the human body? When did GMOs start? DNA was discovered in 1935 by the Russian scientist Nikolayevich Belozersky. He was a full member of the Academy of Sciences. The first patent on GMOs was issued in 1980." A 1980 court case between a General Electric genetic engineer and the U.S. Patent Office is resolved by a 5-4 Supreme Court ruling, allowing the first patent on a living organism. The GMO in question is a bacterium hungry for crude oil, ready to devour spills” (GMOINSIDE, 2013). A couple of years later the FDA approved the first GMO. In 1994 the first GMO arrived in stores. It's crazy to think it's only been 19 years! The product they injected GMOs into was tomatoes. Before 2000, 1999 was the time when GMO food crops dominated. Like years... middle of paper... boring GM fields. While this contamination is concerning for those of us who wish to avoid GMOs, it can be an economic disaster for organic and family farmers. "(SIGMOID, 2012) GMOs, as you can see, are not very useful after all. It could be beneficial and harmful. In my opinion foods should not contain GMOs at all. I feel that foods should remain as God created them. Yes, they have beneficial things. It can help a lot of people, especially those who are starving in the world because right now there are a lot of harmful things that can cause people to die and I honestly wouldn't want that to happen to anyone just because of food. But if it were all up to me, I would bring everything back to normal and make people eat real food. GMOs have many important aspects for our country, but people don't look for these things.
