Today's young generations are exposed to a variety of technologies at home or at school that their parents did not have. This exposure to digital media has a positive aspect, such as raising the child and allowing him to access an important source of knowledge and developing his communication and social skills, and a negative aspect when it comes to exposure to inappropriate behavior, inappropriate content and inappropriate contact. It is therefore necessary to establish a culture of safety for children from early childhood, in order to increase their awareness of the risks they may encounter when exploring cyberspace. Creating a culture of safety should start at school, because children are taught how to use computers, but have received little instruction in best safety practices. A culture of safety should make safe computer use and respect for others an instinctive behavior. While writing this article, I decided to turn my research to Europe, to see how European countries are establishing a culture of safety through their educational curriculum. What most piqued my interest is a report drawn up by the European Commission which explains how online safety (OS) education is included in the school curriculum in 24 countries/regions. Online safety stands for safety culture which most explicitly refers to the use of the Internet. The study analyzes on a country-by-country basis what is taught in the curriculum and government efforts to promote online safety. among the young population. Among the tools put in place to help introduce online safety in elementary schools is a cartoon series called “Vinz and Lou” (http://www.vinzetlou.net/en/v..... middle of paper......inappropriate messages on the Internet will propagate endlessly and it will be impossible to completely remove them from the web. Find out how to keep your email address private and avoid phishing and spam Creating and implementing a successful safety culture requires the cooperation and involvement of everyone, parents, educators, school administrators, government agencies and non-governmental organizations Works Cited Online Safety Education in Schools in Europe Rep.
