Euthanasia, good or bad? In this next article I will explore euthanasia in more detail, the different Christian views, the strengths and weaknesses of the euthanasia argument and finally my view on euthanasia and why I believe in it. First of all, what is euthanasia? It's something that not many people think about until they, a friend or a family member are put in the position of having to actually consider it. Euthanasia, in the dictionary, is simply: the action of painlessly ending someone's life. It seems rather simple but in reality it is much more complicated, not only for the people involved but also for society in general. Overall there are four different types of euthanasia. There is passive euthanasia, where the dying person is given strong painkillers but given no medical treatment and is then left to die, hopefully painlessly. Then there is compulsory euthanasia and, although it is rarely carried out today, it is one in which a person suffering from a certain disease, such as the plague, is killed to relieve his pain and also to prevent the disease from spreading further . Then there is involuntary euthanasia where, for example, a person in a coma or a brain-dead person is euthanized because they have no quality of life or because their life has no value. It is called involuntary euthanasia because a family member may ask for euthanasia to be performed because the sick person cannot. The final type of euthanasia, and the most difficult to understand and regulate, is voluntary euthanasia, where a person, for example with a terminal illness or who is very old, asks for euthanasia to be performed to end to one's life first so that one can not suffer so much. Because eut...... middle of paper ...... and therefore it shouldn't be over quickly. However, even though I am against euthanasia in most cases, I do not believe that it should not be completely banned and that some forms should still exist. For example, even though it seems like the harshest and easiest form of euthanasia that someone can take advantage of, I believe that involuntary euthanasia is right for some extreme cases. I believe this because for some families, perhaps with someone in a coma, who is unlikely to ever wake up, the only possibility of living a normal and happy life is to end the life of the person in the coma. Even if there is a small chance that the person will wake up - and many people believe this is one reason why involuntary euthanasia is wrong - there is a larger chance that they will never wake up, and if they don't , one could say that many lives are wasted because the family always lives in limbo.
