Topic > Global Warming Is Changing the Arctic - 1259

The Earth is our one and only home. Without it, life as we know it would not be sustainable. We, this current generation and the previous one, seem to take the fragile nature of the Earth for granted. These generations have done this because they have done little or nothing to solve the problem of global warming. In most cases, people ignore the global warming situation because they know nothing about global warming and its effects on the planet. What is global warming? Global warming can be defined as “an increase in the earth's atmospheric and ocean temperatures, widely expected to result from an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting primarily from pollution” (“Global Warming”). This greenhouse effect causes several problems. These problems include global climate change, which will ultimately lead to environmental chaos. These greenhouse effects are particularly felt in the Arctic. They trap gases that capture and retain heat in the atmosphere, causing the Arctic to warm and the ice to melt. Without adequate action to reduce the effects of global warming, the Earth and its inhabitants will face several environmental and security challenges in the near future. Global warming creates one major problem, from which many other problems arise. Because greenhouse gases trap and retain heat in the atmosphere, they create a negative impact on the climate around the world. Most of the world's temperatures have increased significantly, but in the Arctic the temperature has increased significantly. “Recent climate changes have been particularly pronounced in the Arctic region, with surface temperatures rising two to four times faster than the global average” (Screen and Simmons).
