The construction of Hoover Dam began during the Great Depression. There were not many jobs due to the economic situation of the 1930s. The construction of Hoover Dam created more jobs by helping people find work. Even if people were given jobs, safety was an issue. Some of the safety concerns were weather conditions, causes of pneumonia, high scalars, and discrimination. The supervisors' goal was to finish Hoover Dam in record time. The supervisors of the Hoover Dam project were solely responsible for the deaths of the workers because they forced them to work in extreme conditions. Temperatures exceeding 120 degrees in the summer and below freezing in the winter made working conditions even worse causing another problem (Outside China). Dehydration was a big part in the summer. Having water and lakes everywhere was not the solution to the problem. The fact that the lakes were dirty meant that the workers did not drink it. Drinking the dirty water could have caused any kind of illness. Even in winter not only was water a problem, but so was clothing. Significant amounts of snowfall and slippery surfaces have caused many workers to die due to slipping or freezing. Supervisors should have been aware of the bad weather conditions and actually taken care of the workers. The desire to complete this project in record time pushed supervisors to put pressure on workers. The workers had to obey their words, otherwise they could easily lose their jobs. Building this dam during the Great Depression made it easy to find workers. Fast work pace was the main goal of the supervisors. Working seven days a week for about eight hours made workers tired.
