I had never looked into the requirements to be an educational interpreter. I had never realized the importance of the primary school years before. Since so many deaf children are born to hearing parents, it would be critical for me, as an interpreter, to introduce the child to ASL until he or she is exposed to the deaf community. It is also important to understand teachers' tactics so that you can impact deaf students and enable them to be as successful as their hearing counterparts. I now realize that being an interpreter in elementary school will really influence the child's success later on
