Topic > Descriptive Essay on Grandparents - 1037

It is difficult to imagine all the events that led us to come into the world or at least it is difficult for some people. When I think of all my ancestors who had to survive all the things I read about in textbooks it's a miracle we're all here. Trying to learn about all the people in my family tree was interesting to know how my ancestors were born, what they did and how long they lived. I mostly learned about my mother's side of the family who lived and thrived in Andrews, Texas, where I'm from. I haven't done anything great yet, but I hope that when my grandchildren write about me they will have something great to write about and they will think that I have done something good with my life. My great grandparents on my grandmother's side were all from Texas and pretty much all of my family is in Texas. One of my great-grandfathers was Dennis Williams, he worked as a roughneck, which is a person who works on an oil rig. He married my great-grandmother Louise Warren who worked as a bartender and waitress most of the time. My grandmother's name is Yvonne Thornburg and she worked many places as a cook, waitress and store manager. The 1970s were the time when women's rights were in full swing, so much so that women had the same rights as men in the workplace and other industries, kicking off a new way in which everyone looked at women . She was married to Clyde Thornburg who was a welder and they had four children. My grandmother and grandfather were baby boomers because it was post-war and everyone was coming back from the war and they wanted to create families that significantly increased the birth rate. My grandparents lived through the so-called “Hippie Days” where most children rebelled and tried to find their identity in the world. This time it was after the war, so everyone was more inclined to keep the peace than not to go back to war, which led children of this period to be more against.
