In recent years, the political and religious movement that has sought to integrate competing theories with the theory of evolution into the curriculum of various schools in the United States. The theory offered was the “intelligent design” theory, which while not explicitly religious, makes a theory much more compatible with religion than with evolution. The danger of this move was that it attempted to dismiss a legitimate scientific theory as one among existing theories – an equal rival in the search for the true explanation. However, what proponents of this measure were actually doing is equating scientific theory with a far inferior narrative of the world. It was therefore necessary for an author like Coyne (2009) to write a book entitled Why Is Evolution True? To show what exactly is meant by the term scientific theory and when we can say that something is actually true. The theory of evolution is just this kind of theory because it has been confirmed in every situation where its predictions have been tested and the evidence to support this is found in the fossil record, comparative anatomy, embryology, in molecular biology and biogeography. rather sophisticated scientific theory that has received many misinterpretations and distortions. However, it can be explained very simply by integrating several important concepts into a single definition. Coyne (2009, p. 3) summarizes the entire theory in one sentence: “Life on Earth evolved gradually from a primitive species – perhaps a self-replicating molecule – that lived more than 3.5 billion years ago; then it branched out over time, giving rise to many new and different species; and the mechanism for most (but not all) evolutionary changes is natural… half of the article… usage is the correct way to explain the facts of life in the world. For these reasons, the theory of evolution is a prime example of advanced scientific theory that can in no way be equated with pseudoscientific claims that serve no purpose other than various forms of propaganda.
