August 4, 1914 was a day that began a huge change in Canada. Although the war had a greater impact on one country and a lesser impact on the other, Canada was not left out. Countries fought for peace, but all they achieved was anything but peace. No one denies that there were positive moments after the war, but the difficulties facing the country outweigh the positive effects. The First World War had a positive and negative impact on Canada politically, socially and economically. The First World War affected Canada politically in an affirmative way. Great Britain recognized Canadian sacrifices in the war and granted them independence. “Canada's sacrifices in war brought greater autonomy from Britain, and Canada independently signed the Treaty of Versailles and assumed a role in the League of Nations (Susan Munroe 1).” This was a new beginning for Canada as an independent country, which is a positive effect of the war. When the World War began, there were many volunteers, but as the war progressed, conscription campaigns began to fail, so the government introduced a military service law. Prime Minister Robert Border had foreseen a conflict and knew that conscription would not be supported and to increase his chances of victory he compromised that he would give women the right to vote, if they voted for conscription, so he affected the rights of vote. in Canada in a positive way. After the world war, many economic problems occurred which led to the formation of new political parties. The three new political parties were the Union Nationale, the Social Credit Party and the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, which was the most successful of all. Indeed, the First World War had some positive political and social impacts on Canada; however, citizens faced many economic and social problems in the post-war period. There were too many difficulties and problems that Canadian citizens faced in the post-war period that should be remembered because it is what shaped the society we live in today.
