Topic > Analyzing Ministry Leaders' Approaches to Discipleship

A young international student entered a secular college campus in Florida ready to begin his medical studies. Being an international student meant he had to take an English course. Little did he know that a mandatory English course would change his life's purpose. The teacher of that class was committed to discipleship as defined and shown in the Bible. Having permission to use the Bible as a textbook, the teacher taught his students the Word of God. The student did not immediately respond to the things taught, although he excelled in his English studies. He came to the United States with the purpose of learning English and medicine. However, he left after learning English, certified as a registered nurse, and following Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Although it was only an English lesson, the teacher had used it as a platform for discipleship. The student returned to his country and gathered his family to tell them what Jesus had done for them. Soon a church was established in his home, and many began to believe in Jesus Christ. The student called the teacher and asked him to come and help him share the biblical message of Jesus; the teacher is gone. Since that time the student has discipled many others, even leading others to plant a church in his village and a nearby town. The things that the teacher had learned, he taught to others, who in turn taught them to others. “The things that you have heard from me before many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach them to others.” (New American Standard, 2 Timothy 2:2). This is the heart of discipleship. If you are not willing to give your life, if you are not willing to take up your cross, then you cannot be a disciple. It's one thing to know... middle of paper... physical discipleship. Be a disciple of Christ by discipling others. Works Cited Adsit, Christopher B.
