“Entrepreneurship is the process of creating or seizing an opportunity and pursuing it independently of the resources currently controlled” (Bygrave 1989) The purpose of this article is to identify the effects that a entrepreneur could influence the development of an organization and examine the effects that barriers could influence intrapreneurship in an organization. The areas that will be investigated and discussed will be: • Corporate venturing • Intrapreneurs • Entrepreneurial management • Innovation Entrepreneurship is considered a behavioral phenomenon at an individual or organizational level, or an emergency process (Gartner et al 1992). Entrepreneurs can be described as a person who owns a business or venture and will take risks to seize an opportunity if it exists within an organization. An entrepreneur is usually the owner and manager of a business who places higher expectations on the financial profit and other benefits that a business can generate. Entrepreneurs can be described as a process through which individuals within organizations pursue opportunities regardless of the resources they currently control (Stevenson and Jarillo 1990). Intrapeuring, as first laid out by Pichot (1985), is an attempt to take the mindset and behaviors used externally to create and build businesses and bring these characteristics into an existing business context. Small businesses need to be innovative as they need to thrive and survive in their chosen markets and without innovation they can become stale and not survive. Large organizations that can be called corporate entrepreneurship and can be associated with companies like IBM that require intrapreneurs to create change within their organization.
