Genghis Kahn was a truly powerful ruler who ruled over 11 million square miles. His ruthless policies in fighting techniques and governance helped him become a successful ruler. Genghis Kahn had no mercy for anyone who opposed him and was able to successfully unite the Mongol tribes. In the space of 25 years Genghis Kahn managed to conquer more land than the Romans managed in four centuries. Genghis Kahn's early life as well as his tribal life were an extremely difficult time which led him to become such a ruthless leader. Axelrod and Philips state, “When Temujin was eight or nine years old, his father, Yesukai the Strong, a ranking member of the royal clan, was poisoned by rival taters” (111).
