I have had a passion for helping people for as long as I can remember. I think the first influence I had was my father. My father is a very generous and sweet person. He's the kind of guy who gives you the shirt off his back. He always seemed to be the happiest when he was helping others and trying to make their lives easier, I saw this at an early age and he inspired my love for helping others. Seeing others in need also had a big influence on him wanting to be a social worker. Growing up I was always annoyed when I saw an excessively poor family or saw someone who was homeless. I always wondered what I could do to help them when I grew up. I grew up wanting to make a difference in the lives of others and I truly believe that by becoming a social worker I can achieve this. When I started college I majored in psychology. The more psychology-related courses I took, the more I realized that this wasn't what I wanted to major in. I took a social work course just to see how I would like it and I love it! Every time I went to class I felt like I could make a difference and help others. While I could make a difference by helping others by getting a degree in psychology, I realized that my true passion was being a social worker. I think the fact that when I was young my family lived in poverty affected me. We didn't live in severe poverty, but we were poorer than everyone we knew. Luckily my dad got a better job and we moved to a better neighborhood. During that time I only got a taste of what it was like to live in poverty. This made me appreciate not only how lucky I was and helped me understand how people affected by poverty feel.2. I think one of the biggest... middle of paper......staying during your lunch break working double shifts to have more time to study on the other days. As I said before, I also volunteer and do extra-circular activities for my job. Despite this, I have always performed well in social services classes and those related to the sector. This is because I know how to use my free time effectively. I work well even under pressure and this allows me to make good use of my limited free time. In addition to everything I have planned I am also learning to speak Spanish. I'm also learning basic words and phrases in Mandarin Chinese and Tagalog (Filipino). Time constraints will not affect how I can perform because I have a deep desire to learn and help as much as I can. If I can use my time effectively to learn a new language, it will help me converse more easily with customers and make me feel more personable with them.
