Is it possible to be an ethical meat eater? Well, in my opinion, that's unethical. There are many animals that suffer during the slaughter process. Federal law requires mammals to be stunned before slaughter. Typically, electric current is used to induce a heart attack or seizure. Then a captive bolt gun is used to deliver a blow to the skull or to fire a rod into the animal's brain. Eating meat is unethical; animals suffer, they are tortured, because there are not enough federal regulations protecting animals, and there are environmental problems, as well as health problems related to meat consumption. As the animals move along the line, they can see what is about to happen. It happens to them, some animals struggle and in turn suffer abuse from frustrated workers, who are under pressure to keep the slaughter lines moving at high speeds. It is not uncommon for the animal to suffer a failed stun or two. In this case, the animal could remain paralyzed without losing consciousness and could regain consciousness after being hung on the guide bleeding out, I would consider it torture. To soften the skin of a pig to be skinned, pigs are immersed in tubs of hot water after being stunned. If a pig is not stunned properly, it may become conscious as it is lowered into the hot tubs, squealing and kicking from being scalded and drowned. As for birds, more than 95% of US land animals killed for food are birds, but there is no federal law. requiring that they be managed humanely. [Poultry slaughter is done with neck-cutting machines that regularly fail, cutting off the wing, face and other body parts of the chicken. Numerous birds enter boiling vats for feather removal while fully conscious]. There should be some sort of federal regulation that mandates... middle of paper... that farmers and ranchers today raise 13% more beef from 30% less cattle. Modern livestock farmers use less water, produce fewer greenhouse gases and prevent overgrazing. Farmers today are more environmentally sustainable than they were 30-40 years ago. While cattle ranchers today have more efficient beef production, producing 16% fewer carbon emissions, using 33% less land and requiring 12% less water to maintain. In conclusion, eating meat is still unethical, because even with these changes that farmers and ranchers have made over the years, trying to improve the industry, but they cannot make up for the damage done. There are animals still suffering and being tortured and more should be done to help them. These are some of the reasons why I don't eat meat; It's my personal choice. And I choose to be meatless.
