Topic > What makes an effective manager? - 906

IntroductionRobbins (1997) defines managers as those who supervise the activities of other people with the aim of achieving organizational objectives. Therefore, in order to provide organizations with the best outcome, effective managers are urgently needed for the modern organization. This is simply due to the fact that, according to Hunsaker (2001), the importance of having managers with strong interpersonal skills is increasingly recognized rather than, twenty years ago, managers were primarily valued only for their technical know-how. an endless list of skills that managers should have to be effective, but the 4 basic skills discussed by Robbins and Decenzo in their book are conceptual skills, interpersonal skills, technical skills (Katz 1974) and political skills (Pavett, Lau 1983) . These skills will be discussed later in this essay along with their importance. Based on the above research, a conclusion will be formulated at the end of the essay. Main part “There appears to be general agreement that effective managers must be effective in conceptual, interpersonal, technical, and political skills.” (Robbins&Decenzo, 2003) .Conceptual Skills: As discussed by Rubbins, "Conceptual skills refer to the mental ability to analyze and diagnose complex situations. They help managers see how things fit together and facilitate making good decisions." When quick decisions need to be made at some point in production, different production managers may make right, wrong, or useless decisions. "Whenever choices exist there is the potential for disagreement. Such differences, if managed correctly, can lead to richer, more effective and creative solutions..."
